The Right Way to Do Social Media Marketing for Your Business

Posted on August 29th, 2014

There is a myriad of ways and means of promoting yourself, your business or your music on social media sites these days, but so many seem to get it wrong. So is there a right way of doing it?

At Fizz Web Design we spend a lot of time updating our various social media sites, and because it is so time consuming, it pays to get it right.

Turn off Facebook Status Notifications in Android

Posted on August 18th, 2014

You know how it is, you comment on something on a whim – like someone’s birthday – because you’re feeling generous and you end up with your phone beeping at you as a hundred other well-wishers who you don’t know decide to do the same. You’re on your Android smartphone and have no idea how to stop this and consider going to an internet cafe to log onto a desktop PC to stop the racket!

Well no need to do that now – you can turn off notifications from your phone quite easily these days – it’s just not that clear, so here’s how.

Equally Spaced Divs in Your Web Design

Posted on August 1st, 2014

There are several simple ways of making sure your divs are separated and spaced equally horizontally across a page. If you use a static 960px width, then you can dimly float your (set width, say 450px) left or even left and right and add padding and margins to fine tune.

But what if you have a fully fluid web design or a semi-fluid (this site uses a maximum width of 1200px and a minimum of 960px depending on browser) or maybe simply more than 2 or 3 divs that you want to show next to each other like this?

Using Social Media to Enhance and Grow Your Business

Posted on July 10th, 2014

These days it’s not enough to advertise in Yellow Pages and wait for the phone to ring. We’ve all moved on. It’s not even enough to get a website and wait for that to do the work and get the business rolling in – we’ve kind of moved on a little from that too.

Today we have smart phones that can render the internet in an eye-pleasing way (remember those ‘web-specific’ pages from a few years ago that a few forward-thinking websites provided?) and the entire world is on social media – and those that aren’t can still look in the Yellow Pages.

Best Dark Website Designs

Posted on June 29th, 2014

Dark website designs can look sophisticated and arty – but they’re not right for everyone or every type of business.

As a rule, we have come to associate darker websites with the art world – art and design, photography sites, music, painters and designers often use sites with a predominantly black or charcoal background as it provides a low-key, neutral frame for the showcasing of their work and doesn’t distract the viewer too much.

Host Server Updates Changing htaccess File

Posted on May 29th, 2014

You may be aware that I wrote a while back about how Free Virtual Servers were affecting my .htaccess file with their own server changes – it seems that your code can be messed with without your permission or prior warning or notification. We use Mobile Detect to redirect our desktop site to a mobile version depending on what the user is using to view our site. To do this we need to parse our html site as php. You can see this in action by searching for Fizz Web Design on a Smartphone. You should be redirected to our mobile version.

I gave a solution for all those suffering a similar fate which you can read here.

Recently it’s started happening again..

How to Link to Home Page & Category Pages in WordPress Menu

Posted on May 19th, 2014

When you need a CMS database-driven site that clients can update themselves – an editable site – you have several choices out there; I prefer to use WordPress. But being able to customise a template to exact client specifications is hard ad you take a risk with the limitations of each template. So why not design your own?

Well, it’s not going to be a simple HTML/CSS standard website design of course, there are hundreds of files in a WordPress theme to deal with and problems can be a nightmare to resolve. Bit it’s worth it in the end. One of the basics to master is being able to create your own WordPress menu so that you can have full control and create your own menu. WordPress allows you to create menus of course, but it’s nice to have full control over your menu links depending on how you add your pages to your site. You can contact us at Fizz Web Design Chelmsford about us designing your own WordPress-based website too of course.
