How to see Most Recent Stories/Updates on Facebook Android

Posted on May 7th, 2014

Ever get the feeling Facebook is actually playing one big joke on you? You want to see the most recent updates from your friends right? Not status updates that Facebook deem to be “Top Stories”. Unfortunately, each update for Android (it may be the same for iPhone, I don’t know) Facebook defaults to Top Stories and we all embark on a game to try to find out how to change it back to Most Recent…

I intend to try to update this page after each Facebook Android update with instructions on how to reset your Facebook to see Most Recent stories rather than Top Stories.

Breaking Bad Now On Amazon Instant – a Netflix v Lovefilm Review

Posted on March 5th, 2014

So, just a month after I upgraded my Sony Smart Blu-Ray player to enable me to get Netflix on my TV so that I could watch Breaking Bad, Lovefilm – now Amazon Instant – finally pulled their finger out and got Breaking Bad – all five series – available to stream.  But it’s not Lovefilm Instant anymore is it, we’re now talking about Amazon Instant. And while you may cheer at the news that you can catch up with the series that everyone that has Netflix has seen, leaving those with Lovefilm feeling like the poor second cousins, all is not good with the takeover…

Getting your marketing right on the various social media platforms is not as simple as you might think. Get it wrong and your posts and updates become no better than the junk mail you shovel up from your hallway each morning to recycle.

Speed up your tasks – how to create Photoshop actions

Posted on July 16th, 2013

If it feels like you’re sometimes either juggling or plate spinning while working in Photoshop then maybe you need to set up some Photoshop actions. Actions are a group of well, actions, that happen more or less with a click of a button. So for example, you can change an images’ ‘Mode’ from 16 bits to 8 bits (to enable the image to be saved as a jpeg for example) and rotated by 180 degrees in addition to any number of other desirable things without having to go through each task’s individual processes to complete.

The idea here is that you save time on mundane tasks that you have to repeat a fair bit. Here’s how.

Stop Skype Changing Numbers On Your Website Design

Posted on April 30th, 2013

We all know as web designers that we have to do two things when we design a website; make it look nice of course, then try to make it still look nice if the user is using Internet Explorer, and to make it worse, it can change depending on what version the user is using – IE6, IE7, IE8 IE9 or IE10. Microsoft do things “their way” often ignoring convention or the rules universally adopted by others.

And so we come to the annoying problem of Skype rendering the perfectly placed phone number on the site you have just designed in a completely different way to how it was intended to look. Skype (owned by Microsoft) will add its own small Skype button into the mix as well as changing the colour of the telephone number to bright blue. Not good.

If, like me your responses from your various online web contact forms are forwarded to your gmail account for convenience, you may also have set up a gmail account for business as well.

Here’s a simple guide to setting up an email signature for your gmail account that works nicely for sending emails – as well as being in the right place when replying to emails. I’ll also show you how to remove the little line that gmail automatically adds before the signature too.
